Auditioning for summer or fall dance programs?Give your audition a jump-start by warming your body efficiently pre-audition:
- Do a light cardio warm-up to increase your heart rate and consequently increasing blood flow to your muscles (= heat in the muscle).
- Continue with movements reflective of the dance form. E.g. Ballet movements for a ballet audition, jazz movements for a jazz audition, etc.
- Be sure to do a few jumps before entering your audition. You’ll want to ‘find your legs/jump’ before performing!
- Take a moment to do some light stretches incorporating your breathing. This will help to calm your nerves as well as bringing energy rich oxygen to your muscles.
Lastly, do dress for confidence in your audition. Wear dance wear that makes you feel good about yourself.
Watch for an upcoming guest blog post on how
your warm-up influences your performance!
